FRESH WATER The world is not short of water. Neither is the world (in general) short of potable water – but the capture, storage and supply of potable water is an issue for a number of regions. With the growth in population and the increases in intensification of agriculture and industry, the issue of freshwater availability is about to become a major problem. It will become a problem not only in the existing sensitive areas susceptible to water shortages, but also spreading north and south of this geographical belt. The shortage of potable water is about to become a major limiting factor in the growth and development of a number of regions.
Areas of danger: southern Europe
Time scale: 2010 - 2015 This will decrease agricultural growth – in some cases significantly - and add to already increasing food prices. It will increase migration from the land to the cities. The costs associated with this will decrease the rate of growth and development. The inland areas of China in particular will be susceptible. And as fresh water becomes a hot political topic, in some areas of the world there will be conflict. Would you like to know how this will affect you? Would you like to know how this will impact on your plans / markets / developments? Would you like to know how this will affect the financial markets and global stability? Would you like to know how your business / organisation / region can transform challenge into success? Let us work with you to produce a much needed strategic water plan to ensure future viability, sustainability and development. This is far more than desalination.
